My new shop out back. Had a Shopsmith and hand power tools in a garage shop for several years. Started on this workshop in 2013 with the re-use of some trusses and building materials from an old house a buddy and I tore down. I built the shop to the width and number of trusses, which was 19’x 32’. My father in law donated a bunch of 10’ studs for the walls, so that worked out pretty well. Saved a lot by using cull lumber from the Big Orange Box, which was suitable for many things, such as floor joists, bench, miter saw station, cordless drill/nailer station, etc. Even got a 5 gallon bucket of pant for the floor for a whopping $26. I have my own business as a house plan designer, so I traded some plan work for the electrical work by a licensed electrician, so more saved there. It’s been a 3 year labor of love, but worth every bit for what I now enjoy. Like me, it’s still a work in progress, but at least I now get to make sawdust without all the set up and pack away I had to do before.

Looks good! One question - How did you fit all that stuff inside your garage?

Thanks! As to storing all the stuff - I didn't. Most has been acquired since then. I bought the miter saw at the start of the build (new project = new tool) :-). Got the table saw from a buddy at work who no longer had room for it - he's got a standalone 14" bandsaw he's thinking about parting with too. Got the RAS, pro planer and bench from Craigslist ads. I just keep an eye out for the occasional tool and they seem to pop up. I've learned that patience is a virtue, indeed. And of course, having a few bucks put aside when the opportunity presents itself! Deals are out there when it's cash on the barrelhead.

Pretty sure I have a pic of how I had stuff stacked in the garage. I'll have to post that when I find it.

The last phase of the build will be a shed roof on the right side, with a storage shed enclosure at the back. I want to put a closet in there to eventually house a larger air compressor and a bigger dust collector for a whole shop system. I currently have the SS vac and several smaller shop vacs (picked up 2 of those for a grand total of $15).

Here was the original setup. I have a home office in half the 2 car garage, which left enough space for the SS and related stuff and my bike. There's about a 4' walkway between the bike a workbench on the other side wall.

To do any work, I'd set it up in the driveway, and then put it all back again. About 15-20 minutes in each direction once I got it down. Sure is nice now to just walk in and pick up where I left off...

Are those walls about 11' tall?
Did it make a lot of whooshing noise when all of that beautiful empty space became filled space?

My father-in-law donated some 10 foot studs, where I was just going to use 8 footers. A nice blessing, since I am not hitting the fluorescent lights when I swing boards around, at least not as much :-)

As to the whooshing noise, that's why I put double doors on the front. It equalizes the pressure a lot quicker as I fill it up.
