They only show on the main page, Click on "Board Index" , then scroll down to the section under "Who's on line"

The Board Index page is also the only one that shows all the members that are currently online, all the other sub forums only show who is in that sub forum.

They do not show up on all version of the forum.

I see they don't show up in the Shopsmith or Shopsmith1 styles but they do in Prosilver and Subsilver2 styles.

For those that are interested here is a screen shot of todays birthday list in Subsilver2

I am inclined to say that there are only two forum members on the list. The rest, I believe, are some sort of nuisance posting. Furthermore, look at those to determine who was born not only on the same day but in the same year. Those that are 27 (21 different names) as an example

I believe you are correct, The majority of these members are a legacy of the rapid influx of new memberships we had several years ago. I don't think there is any easy way to purge the rolls of these "Ghost" members.
