There are folks around, as well as some specialized shops that do repairs for fixed price plus parts. Jacob Anderson is one, and he even has 30 or so free YouTube videos to help you understand the condition of the machine and beyond. He also sells DVD's on headstock and other repairs.
It is something you can likely do if you are physically able and mechanically inclined. These forums are full of folks who have documented what they did, also free.
Check out his videos at

Oiling the Headstock and How things should look I recommend viewing before you do or move anything on it under power. Don't turn the speed dial without the machine running, and don't run the machine until you have inspected and oiled it.
Needs to be oiled every 10 hours of run time, so this is something you need to know how to do yourself anyway. It is not hard to do, just some basics and you will be fine.
The inspection is something I suggest you do yourself, even if you are sending it off for repairs.
We will help in any way we can as forum members to assist you.
I wrote a PDF a couple of years ago that may help you titled Buying a Used Shopsmith - Revisited that you may find informative. It is full of background information, photos, links, and is based on Nick Engler's original guide for what to look for in getting a used machine, which was at the time, a text only document.
You will find it here

Kind regards,
Everett

I did not know there was a SS authorized repair shop in Utah.
I would never go to West Valley (City) now. Many years a go I went to the Salt Lake Grizzly's hockey games at the E Center. Now it is called the Maverick Center.
No more. Almost every day when you turn on the local news there is a shooting, domestic violence case, robbery, child abuse, drug bust, you name it in West Valley City.
90+ purps are Hispanic and most of the victims are the same. Oh excuse me, that is racial profiling. Well DUHH. PC has gotten so out of hand that is ridiculous.
Enough, Admin will give me another warning.

If it 'is' what it is, then refer to it as it is.

Is there anyone in the grand rapids Michigan area that can work on my Mark V power head. It had no maintenance for 50 years.
Alex Shopsmith Repair recently completed a full rebuild of my Shopsmith Mark V, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Their work was incredibly professional, and they handled every detail with care and precision. The team was knowledgeable, communicative, and ensured that the machine was restored to like-new condition.
What impressed me most was their commitment to providing a high-quality service at a fair and reasonable price. They didn’t cut corners, and the value I received for the cost was outstanding. If you’re looking for a reliable and skilled service to repair or rebuild your Shopsmith equipment, I highly recommend Alex Shopsmith Repair.
You can reach them at 505smithrepair.com for more information or to schedule a service. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
