Looks like a no need hunk of plastic to me. Just something to purchase then store. I use the bandsaw quite a bit and have not witnessed those bad problems the Zero clearance deal will fix. Only an occasional small cutoff that may jam in the slot. When this happens, which is seldom, it is easy to remove. Just shut down the saw and pull it out. This is not a problem! Tear out? None! Not a problem.

This this the general idea of using a hunk of plastic but about any material should work be it mdf or hardboard or an old cutting board.... well a new cutting board would work too.

Here is shot of the plastic being placed on the table of the bandsaw, and like I mentioned the scroll saw/jig saw table is another location that might be served by the tip.
Of course if you are not inclined to do such things then it fine by me. And as it has been said "Octogenarian's have an earned right to be a curmudgeon" and life goes on.

You're right on there, Ed! I didn't see any sense in it when first saw it on Woodsmith Tips.

I have two SS bandsaws. One usually has a 1/16" blade I use for fine work and I've been using a UHMW sheet on the table as standard for any cuts. The scroll saw is fine for most cuts but when I have a very thin design on a thick piece of wood, the sheet keeps any trimmings from falling through slot. For example on one intarsia piece, the stems on a branch were less than 1/8" wide (some tapered to 1/16") but the stock (cocobolo) was over 2" thick. Much more than I wanted to try and shape on the scroll saw but easy on the bandsaw.
The easy glide of the UHMW made it significantly easier to move the piece so I could concentrate on the cut line.
Usually I just use the round plastic throat inserts that fit the SS on both of them (not fond of the metal ones) but when needed the plastic table saves me time and aggravation.
I think it all depends on what use you have for and how you use the bandsaw (and possibly the scroll saw )
