My DC-3300 cleanup is done and one thing I am considering is an upgrade to the collector filter bag. My DC-3300 has the standard 12 inch tall bag and because of some sensitivity to dust, I would like to bump that up to one of the new bags out there which are good down to 1 micron or better. SS has a nice one but, for my budget, a bit pricey. There are some other ones available today (that don't fit the SS directly) that are much less expensive (still talking soft sided bags - shaker felt bags) - one example is replacement bag for a Jet which is 14" diameter (the SS is 18.5") x 42" tall. Cost is $27 (Highland Woodworking) to $36 (Rockler and Amazon).

Anyone have any words of wisdom pass along?

I don't have any words of wisdom but how would you get a 14" diameter Jet bag on the 18.5" DC-3300? If you can find a non SS bag of the same diameter then there should be no reason that it won't work.

John, totally agree with you that if diameter was 18 or 18.5" then there would be no problem. As to how I would get a 14" to work? Heck, I don't have an answer right now but I am pondering (e.g. built an extension (need to miss the fan housing)of about 6" and put a reducer plate on top with a 14" opening). There are some filter manufacturers who will quote a custom (probably way too expensive). There is a bigger version of this (i.e. 20" diameter but it costs 2x, etc.). So, no, I don't have solution. Just a need at this time.

Then just buy the SS filter and be done with it. You only have to buy it once. It sounds all the other solutions you have looked at are more expensive than just buying the SS filter. JMO.

I just replaced mine with one from Amazon that I paid $27.99 for. Powertec 7001 Dust Colledtor bag 20" x 31" 1 micron that works great. It is a little bigger( diameter wise) but I just folded it over to make it fit and so far it works. Dust has been a problem in my shop and now with this and the air filter that I built it has cut down dust a bunch.

Steve, thanks - good recommendation. That is one I looked at and I will zip around and look again. Any idea if your airflow went up or down??

I didn't notice any difference in air flow. When I ordered it I was concerned about how tall the bag was and figured I would adapt a rod to hold it up, but after installing it and turning the DC-3300 on it doesn't seem to need it. I haven't used it a lot because of weather and other projects. I may in the future add a rod to hold up the top but so far it seems fine and it was a heck of alot cheaper alternative.
