SS Pro Planer blade replacement

Has anyone had good success using a dial indicator to reset new or resharpened blades? I don't have the adjustment gauge from SS and feel $8.95 plus $8.00 shipping is a little steep. I have a new set of blades that came with the Planer when I bought it but no gauge was included.

Unless I am missing something, seems like a dial indicator would work? If there are pit-falls, please chime in.

I have been looking at a Mini Planer Pal set from Grizzly
The Shopsmith planer cutter head is 2" in diameter without the blades, 2-1/4 with the blades.
Mini Planer Pal set from Grizzly Model: G3641 for cutter heads of 1-7/8 - 2-1/8 inches and was $26.95 for a pair.

I think it would work well even with the potential 1/8" under spec on a Shopsmith planer and they take the dial indicator and base out of the equation.
I am still looking at getting a set, even though I am considering buying a spiral cutter head for my Pro-Planer. I still have a Shopsmith mounted planer that I am not converting.
It doesn't cost anything to look, and I suspect some folks here already have tried them.

I use a dial indicator, and it works swell. There should be a Sawdust Session video online. Nick Engler shows his technique, which is what I use.
