Hi,

I recently purchased a Mark V which had been sitting in the PO garage for quite a while. When I looked at it, he turned it on and ran the table saw to show things worked. I don't think he quite went thru all the speed changes, so needless to say, that was my fault. When i got the machine home and plugged it in and ran it thru the diff speeds, it seemed like the belt would disengage at the low speeds. I did some research and then oiled the spindles and things started to slide better. The issue now is tho, that the motor won't turn over and I"m not exactly sure how to align the motor spindle with the head stock and make sure every thing is "correct".

Does anyone know of a repair person located in the PNW, or Portland, OR area? I just need a little assistance to help me get this beauty back up and running.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Perhaps there is a member here who could help you out local or other wise give us some more details and pictures and we can work with you right here on the forum.

As a wild guess it could be the belt is just stuck between the pulley's. In that case with it unplugged mount the sanding disk and attempt to turn it. If it turns then you can keep turning it and turn the speed dial slowly. With any luck the belt will work loose. This may not solve the problem but it will help us know a bit more about what is going on.

It is likely you will need to dig a bit deeper to get things working smoothly but we as a group do pretty well at this sort of thing so give us a shot.

I agree w/ED. I measured two of my belts. The Shopsmith 504193 DF measured 0.5 " back by 27 " outside DIAMETER. It was larger than a 4L (.50") x 250 (25.5 ") belt. A longer belt may be contributing to the problem because your are making the lower sheave as small as possible, running deep inside the V of the pulley and the control sheave as large as possible. ( Small lower pulley, small boy, pushing a large upper pulley, big boy to achieve slow speed. Deep inside of the sheaves are interleaving ramps, that may be trapping the belt.

It has happened to me but I don't remember that I had to take anything apart to get it working.
