I don't often have the need or desire to add special characters here but if I do this seems to work well for me.

I know some of you have your own way of doing this but for me I like to do it this way. In windows10 you can get started by starting to type character map in the Cortana search box, actually ch and it brings up the desktop app to click on. That is about the fastest way I know of finding it but if you use it a lot you can make a short cut to it.

It looks like this:

With the forum browser window open I drag the Character Map over next to it like this:

Now when you want to add a special character like this © you find it in the table click it, release it and then click and drag to where you want it. It is important to click then release before attempting the drag and drop.
® £ ± § and many many more.

This is not new, I did this back at work back when windows first started out but I know a lot of people never discovered this method. Give it a try.

Thanks Ed. That works just fine for the few times it is needed.

I don't use Windows, but on my Linux computers, the character map is in the menu under Accessories-----Character Map. However, then, I have the option for over 50 pages of characters and languages and often can't find the character I want in all that information.
