A second carriage

Since I upgraded from the MKV table to the 510 I have a extra carriage and table .

I was looking at putting this carriage between the band saw and the head stock to increase the size of the band saw table ,

I have a project coming up and I want to make a cut about 8ft long on the band saw,the extra table would be nice .

After putting the carriage on the way tubes,,,, I noticed the head stock was about 3 inches give or take ,,,to far away for the coupling to hook up to the band saw, there is probably a better way , any suggestions ?

I see the 510 / 520 tables are a lot different with floating tables .

If you have the 510, just hang an extension table off of the left side of the main table and adjust them both to be the same height as the band saw table.

Yes the shafts need to be 'extended'. A third party 5/8" coupler and a short piece of 5/8" shaft will do that.

That is your solution. You can make the table as long as you want with the 510 by using the extension tables. If you need more, you can buy additional 6 foot stainless steel tubes to make the table even longer. That plus the existing table length puts you well beyond the 10 foot mark.

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, but has anybody tried putting a second carriage on a 500? Two carriages side by side on the right side would allow for more table support. The only downside I see would be that it would limit the short length when using the lathe.

Eventually I will have the extension tables and tubes ,

I have the extra MKV table and carriage and was thinking I could use it between the band saw and the head stock ,

I am sort of concerned about adding a extension to the motor shaft ,even though it should work,,,

I would probably have a shaft made at a machine shop in one piece if I go that way.

I didnt know if any one else had tried this with success .

The extra 510 tables and tubes would be a very nice addition

My table needs for the project are more linear then wide , I managed a long piece of Maclura pomifera, commonly known as the Osage orange ,,,,AKA,,,,,,hedge apple,,,,AKA, horse apple ,,,that I want to eventually cut into thin strips, it is still in a limb form ,,,,,it is straight as any thing and around 8 inches dia and at least 7ft long ..

If I can quarter it I should then be able to use the table saw to cut into strips for gluing .

Yea,,good idea,,I thought about some thing like that ,,I only need it for a short time ,, if nothing else,,, I could maybe attach a block of wood under a piece of plywood ,,,,and try to clamp it to the band saw table and again at the main saw table.

In theory It should work.

I used mine to make a tilting arbor router for the SS. Works great.

Sounds like a fun project Paul.

I may look into some thing like that as well,,,,,these things are so versatile it is amazing.
