The tailstock is stuck in the machine. I have tried prying it out using a length of bar and lifting up. It end up lifting the hole end of the machine off the ground. . The wet spots are JB Blaster. Maybe that will help. I am open to suggestions

Completely remove the knurled clamp(rotate the opposite direction from tightening until it will slide out).

Then if not loose, gentle tapping up(access is easier with the clamp handle removed.

When you get the tailstock out, come back for 'how to reinstall the clamp'.

NO GORILLA TACTICS.

I should have mentioned I have removed the knurled handle and beat the tar out of the tail stock using s rubber hammer. I don't want to hit it with a regular hammer.

Careful Persuasion must be the approach. Using force, especially impact force, could easily crack the casting.

If I had your problem, I would remove the casing (along with the tail stock) and work on the tubes from the under side. Apply force (that rubber mallet) to the Tail Stock legs.

Yes, dismantle the Mark if necessary. Might be good. You could clean all of the legs and holes that way.

Just a opinion ,, the tail stock itself can be removed from the tubes by set screws , have you tried to remove it by itself leaving the tubes in the casting ?

If the tail stock will come off,,,,,, then ,,,,, maybe ,,,,,very gentle back and forth twisting motion on the tubes until they free up .

then replace with new,,, or new old stock.

Your tailstock tubes gots set screws????????

I would use a steel hammer, but with a piece of hard wood between the end of the tubes and the hammer. Yes gently at first with gradually increasing force to get it started. Alternate between the two tubes. We may be fighting galvanic corrosion.

I don't think so! The tubes are pressed into the casting.

An other approach would be to move the collars up against the tailstock to create a gap between the collar and the base casting. Then drive a wedge into that gap(again alternating between the two tubes, but also moving around the tube).

Have you looked at the ends on the tubes from underneath for possible rust buildup?

P.S. With the collars loose, you can also apply force driving the tailstock/tubes INTO the base casting to get the tubes started moving.

Do be careful because all these things could cause breakage. Only apply straight line force in the direction movement needed.

As has been stated, you are working in a situation that could very easily break the casting.

I say again, I would want to work on this from the bottom side of the Base Arm. If you loosen (remove) the set screws from the stop collars, do the stop collars turn on the tail stock legs with no binding.

I just took another look at yours in the picture. It appears that you might be able to apply some downward force on the Tail Stock as well. It appears that there is a gap between the Base Arm and lower side of the stop collars. I see NO tube extending out of the bottom of the base arm. I also see a crack in my base arm.
