Buy life insurance with this purchase. Lol. Depending on how much power the engine puts out I would worry if the saw or even the blade could take it before catastrophic failure.

However I could be over cautious and maybe the saw was designed for milling ironwood.

Well it's a novel approach to say the least. I guess it would work. If you are living off the grid it could work. Maybe the guy likes camping but just can't leave his woodworking behind

Interesting. I can see it being common in places without stable or no electricity. Depending on how old it is, any place not in a town or city. Now, areas of Alaska come to mind.

It looks like the motor sits higher then the table, might limit the size of wood you can cut with it. Other then that it is interesting.

Back in the day when I worked at a few places without power they would pull this trailer/generator in and make power for the tools. Big thing not like the little ones I see on sites now, might have been army surplus?? Big and ugly drab green thing.

Speaking to this sort of thing I remember my Mom having a I think it might have been Maytag washing machine with gas motor. Had a foot pedal/arm you stepped on to start it. Haven't thought about that in years.

I'm with you. If there is anything on the opposite spectrum of the Sawstop, this it. It would take a special kind of person to risk using this contraption. It's in California. I thought they are overly environmental friendly anyways. Lol

I'm not disagreeing with any of the fears expressed here. And I'm sure not going to put that thing in my basement. But, I'd like to play devil's advocate.

It's not a huge motor. Perhaps the throttle is set for a barely adequate power output. Any problem and the motor stalls out. That could be a safety feature.

Or maybe it's a widow maker. In any event, I'm not touching it.

I have seen many of saws powered with a belt around an empty rim on a car.

With these setups you either know what you are doing and do it safely or you die.

Think about it, before all the safety devices people were a lot more intelligent that is because Saws of this type killed off the idiots. How the idiots live and vote. How scarey is that.

It has been done with a Shopsmith at least once. (see page 12, bottom right corner)

Completely portable and cordless.
