I'm awake and it just after 4:00 in the morning. Sleep is not coming so I might as well do a few things then sleep in. One of many joys of being retired.

So I have a 10ER and I can see a few reasons for wanting to run it backwards. Most of the issue on that is the cost of a motor with the access to the correct wires to do so. The motor I have doesn't have access and frankly I wasn't able to crack the case open to even have a look about. That is another issue but unless it turns out to be unusable as is I'm going to try to live with it. The previous owner said it was running weak, well when I took it apart the switch wiring had just a couple of strands connected, I'm hoping that is the weakness. Without load it sounded good.

The motor is a dual shaft, that is it has a shaft coming out of each end. This got me thinking, I do do that once in a while. If the motor rotation is fixed but the motor could be rotated 180 degrees the other shaft would then be running backwards. So if I could make an adapter with a center pivot point and a couple of quick hitch pins to lock it in either position.... A second pulley would make it easier. Not a perfect solution but it might work until such time as I find the right motor or go DC.

Anyone see any feasibility issues with this?

When I was growing up, I was taught that the dual shaft motor is dual shaft exactly for that purpose. I have one dual shaft in the shop but I don't know which way I have it mounted

Like you Ed I am retired and sometimes find myself awake in the middle of the night. Much of the time I could sleep but my bladder wakes me up. I refuse to cut my fluid intake like many people do, I have read and studied what that can do to your health...
I usually try to doze back off but some nights it just doesn't happen so I also choose to use the time for planning and sometimes get up and go down to the woodshop and plan or putter. I know that I am free most days to go back to bed and doze off and sleep in the morning or even nap after lunch.

While I have reverse on my old Mark VII I must admit that I had not really considered adding it to my 10-ER... I'll try to remember (no small task) to look later today to see if the motor on my 10-ER is reversible or not.
I do have an extra 1 HP air over motor dust proof motor that I used on a grain bin bottom unloading auger. It only ran a few hours a year in the spring and was stored the rest of the year. I have considered installing it on my 10-ER for several years. I had not considered a reversing switch on it but I do know it is reversible. I also always ran it on 220 volts.
I will look at my existing 10-ER to see if it is easily converted to 220 Volts as well and if it is reversible and voltage convertible then I am home free using the original motor (single shaft BTW). If not I'll probably just use the bigger motor. I don't know that a much bigger motor is necessary or even desirable?
