A recent post on alignment reminded me of this issue. I cannot use the long allen wrench for alignment because there is a set screw which is inserted from the bottom before the glides are screwed in and then these are tightened from the top to set the glides. The set screw cannot be removed from the top nor can another one be inserted from the top. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If you have the guides with the hex head then I'd pull them and see if there is a second set screw but in from below that is blocking the path. Other wise the setscrew should have been put in from the top and should have access to be adjusted from there.

There is normally a set screw to tighten against the rod and that "second" set screw is most likely blocking the path.

The hole is tapped fully(with a clearance portion at the top), so any set screw should be removable in either direction.

I understand "should be" as in, "You should get a raise in January" or "I should be finished with the project this weekend", etc. The point is that it isn't and doesn't. I cannot back out the set screw through the top and inserting one from the top bottoms out after about 1.5 turns. I suppose I could use a 5/16-18 tap but it doesn't look as if it was ever tapped fully.

Well now 'if' it has a threaded set screw in it, how did the screw get in there without threads?

Does the set screw have a hex socket or a slot?

Or maybe it ain't a screw after all?

Maybe it is a busted tap from the OEM?

If so call CS.

To clarify things, I can insert the allen wrench from the top all the way down to tighten the set screws against the glides. So, since it goes all the way through the stoppage isn't caused by a busted tap or other foreign obstruction. Since it is supposed to be tapped all the way I think that will be the fix. I'll let you know - unless I screw it up (wait, what I want to do is screw it up so I can get it out from the top ). Well, you get my drift.

So it WILL exit out the bottom?

I have not located my version specific miter gauge, so it is possible that that version is different.

I do not understand why a locking setscrew for the glide screw would be causing an interference unless it is too long. As for the tapping all the way to the top, I think that is a requirement otherwise there is no way to clamp the miter gauge stop rod with a set screw.

I have a different style glides on this miter gage,,, the glides are slotted not hex head and the threaded holes go all the way through,?


Can you just clamp the allen wrench to the miter guage?

That is how myn is

I had to retap the entire hole .

Also my glides are adjusted from the top with a flat head screw driver not a allen wrench.
