Sorry if this is in the wrong place. or been asked a thousand times!
When I look up the serial number of a Mark v. It seems to be confusing.
It appears to be 276508. Is that 55 or before?
Thanks,
Ron

If you looked it up here
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/serialnumber.htm
then it was probably made in 1954.
The periodic re-starting of the numbering system is confusing, and probably has to do with various owners of the brand name over the years. I found this interesting fact from an older thread:
There is also a distinction between the Mark 5 and Mark V designations. The Shopsmith product/brand has gone through several owners (Magna Engineering Corp, Yuba Power Products, Magna American Corp, and now Shopsmith, Inc.). "Mark 5" was the name before the current owners. When Shopsmith, Inc. was formed in the early 70's and started production back, they changed it to the "Mark V."
If you could post a few pictures of your machine, then others can tell you with more certainty what you have, and whether or not any major upgrades have been done to it.

You may find a wealth of information in
https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... 90#p185690
Read "Buying a Used Shopsmith v2.PDF"
It should help you identify what you have and much of what upgrades may have been done to it through the years. You may also find other things of interest in the post that document started.
Welcome to the family!

Thank you both..Everett , and BR549. I don't actually have the machine yet though I just paid a $100 deposit for it, total price $550. It's on craigs list. Listed approx. 300 miles north of me in California. I happen to be going past there on the 30th of March! It is advertised as a 1955 but appears to be a 54. no biggie. It has been "lightly refurbished" (listers words) meaning the current owner..(son) of the original removed rust and repainted it. Got to admit it looks pretty in the picks ..for a 62 year old machine! Owner also claims the motor was gone through by Dad, new brushes, and bearings too I hope. It comes with the "bandsaw, jointer, all turning accessories arbors, and guards for table saw, shaper/router. Some turning tools some mortising bits, and jigs etc". Also words of the lister. He also says it has a power stand with motor. But claims he never got around to getting the pulleys, belt, and wiring for it.
Question..anyone have or know of where thy can be had? I know I can watch ebay. I checked Shopsmith.com. Seems they have the now called power station. Don't think it's quite the same.

Looks like a good deal as long as it runs OK. I see you also get an edge planer and the disk sander. The cooler is an added bonus!
