New Projects

It's been a long time since I was last here but health issues and other things kept me away from the shop.

Like most woodworkers, I collected a large number of scraps and so I decided to use them by making toys vehicles. The attached pictures show my first attempts this time around. As usual, I made some adjustments to the plans I had. First I added headlights and tail lights and on the tractor trailers I added poorly painted windows.

The plans for the pick-up trucks called for a solid sided truck bed as seen in the middle truck but I decided to be creative and make them a bit different. The first attempt (the brown one) was using popsicle sticks to make a rustic looking truck. It worked out well but is a little flimsy so I used 1/4" BB plywood to do the red one. The other change was to pin the fenders on with three 1/8" dowels to help prevent them from breaking off if the truck was dropped.

I am now working on a couple of "coupes" similar in design to the pick-ups.

Sorry for the quality of the photos. I took them with my tablet and they looked good but turned out dark when transferred to the PC.

Enjoy Your Shop!

Quite creative and cute as the dickins.
Really like the color schemes. Especially the white cab interiors.
Your pics look great on a kindle.

Thanks for the comments!

It's been a long time since I made toys and am now realizing, again, how little tension there is with making these projects in spite of the mistakes I make.

I just finished the two "Coupes" I was making and now have take a couple of pics to post.

Have fun!

John

Seems it has been a long time for Both of us. I just love your projects and look forward to seeing more. These vehicles are very innovative! :) :)

Thanks Chuck:

Good to be back and to hear from you.

I will probably follow your lead and donate some of my output as Christmas gifts. A local real estate company collects toys every year and if they accept hand made items, they will get them.

Take care.

John
