The lathe duplicator is great for us 85 year olds because no very firm grip on a lathe tool is needed and the finger pain is gone. The cutters are not very sharp but my easy tool cutters are great and so with a added washer I mounted the easy tool cutter on the SS tool holder and really saw a great cut. I found a block of spalted Tamerind that would be a fine bowl and the very hard wood yields to the cutter with no chatter and a good cut.

Very interesting! I thought the lathe duplicator was just for duplicating spindles. But you're using it to freehand a bowl?

The duplicator will work fine in any lathe operation. Deep bowls can be a problem due to limited reach of the tool holder.

Also I didn't know about bowl turning using the lathe duplicator :o . Found this - Shopsmith has been showing this for quite a while. http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/Tips_Ar ... g_Bowl.htm
