OK, my brother- Sterling here- and I went to pick up an
8 inch Grizzly jointer he found on CL.

We borrowed my boss's engine hoist, and went to get
this monstrosity. A few hundred dollars. A few HUNDRED
pounds, too, (Sterling went up last week to look and pay the
gentleman.) He noticed a Shopsmith-looking thing, that the
guy was going to sell (or give away) for scrap.

We get there this morning, and I finally see this SS.
It is a MkVII, but missing quite a few parts. He ALSO gave
us a Ridgid pipe vise. The vise was missing the spreader on
the legs, but we can cobble together something to work.

A 1 to 2 inch Ridgid pipe cutter.

An inexpensive floor jack.

A 10 inch Grizzly stack dado set.

A partridge, with pear tree, too.
(OK, made that last one up.)

Shopsmith is mine, and I'm trying to decide if
I fix it up, or sell the parts. It is missing the
inspection hole cover, but I was able to see that
the cam (plastic) was in pristine condition.

If I can find a MkVII table and extension table,
I may keep it. Yes, I know a Mk 5/V table will
work, but I want that 90 degree extension table.

Oh yes!

I realized I have FINALLY ventured into
the non-Cast Iron world. But, I din't
spend too much. Yep, finally got a
ShopSmith younger than I am.

But, it is a rare one.

You need to find a 'real' MVII table - a '500' will only fit BACKWARDS!

Ditto the extension table.

They do appear occasionally on E-bay.

Update on this.

The Ridgid pipe vise went to
Sterling's next door neighbor.
(Not the dog killers on his east
side, but the electrical contractor
to the west of him. (Sterling needs it,
it's 50 feet away.) I've asked for the
pipe cutter, since I don't have one.
I'm also going to keep the MkVII,
just because it's rare.
