Turning chuck

Post by bgam65 »

As a beginner bowl turner, what would be the ideal four jaw chuck for turning around 6-10 inches? The Nova G3 is out of my price range right now.

Use a glue chuck which as long as you have a faceplate is free or very inexpensive. I prefer it for most bowls.

This is a good price, just remember you will need an insert to fit the chuck to the Shopsmith.

Try not to cheap out on a chuck. They are expensive but a cheap one will probably disappoint you. The G3 is a good chuck but I prefer the Oneway Talon chuck which Shopsmith marketed a few years ago. The two are different but it comes down to personal choice. You will need an insert for the Talon as well.
