Knobs - Not as easy as they seem

I have several projects on tap that will require knobs. Nothing fancy just lots of them. The knob I am looking for mostly is plastic 1" 1/4-20 3/4 stud. It's the same knob that's on the Mark 5 table. You would think that would be easy to find. Think again. Shopsmith wants 1.49 each. Fair enough price but I figure since I need about 20 of them I might want to look for a better price. I haven't found one yet. I have seen these things go from $9.75 each on down. Most are about a buck or two more that the Shopsmith price. You would think they would be more common and as such cheaper. I checked ebay, Lee Valley, McMaster and about 5 other places but all of them were more expensive. I know somewhere someone has a box full and they don't know how to get rid of them. I know I will find that person about an hour after I place my order to Shopsmith. The sad thing is I would also buy those too. After all you can't have too many knobs.

What jpg said, but also look at the large knobs, http://www.woodpeck.com/multiknob.html. Then use whatever length bolt you need or a nut. Reminds me, I need to order some 3/8 knibs and check my supply of others.

There are a lot of options. Now Lee Valley sells a socket head rose knob for $1.00 each if you order 5 or more(00m40.01). The capscrew(00m40.11)in 3/4" is 10 for $2.50 so about 25 cents a knob for that or a total of $1.25 each and until the 18th of this month the postage is free.

If you want a pre-made type they have one for $2.05 each(00m56.21)

Snap-lock knobs from $1.20-1.25 (00m50.10 .20 .30) you supply the bolts.

Just make sure you compare after shipping and taxes.

The last time I looked at woodpecker knobs I didn't see the miniknob. That looks like a good solution for my projects. The plan calls for a 1"knob but 1 1/2 should work. On a couple of them the space where they are going to be use is a little tight but if it is a problem I will just swap them out with my Shopsmith knobs.

I will compare them to the Lee Valey knobs and see what the best deal will be for this project but I know I have Woodpecker knobs in my future.

Ax-Man surplus is cool. I love stores like that. I looked at the knobs and unfortunately they don't list any thread sizes. If they were local I could check them out but without knowing what they are I will need to pass. The good side of that is I found some weird things I had been looking for that I may pick up. Thanks for the tip.
