I seem to have miss-placed my Ryobi impact driver... Has anyone here seen it?

I've been looking for it intensely all over the farm for about a week now. Just too many hiding places...

I always find mine after I buy another one

Sometimes when I find something, I'll look in one more place so that I can say that I found it in the next to the last place I looked.

Sometimes I think we can zone out things and just place something in an awkward and unfamiliar place when we are preoccupied thinking forward to what’s coming next.

I noticed it when I was in my early 20’s in the shop one day when I had been collecting the tools and parts to repair a piece of machinery, next on my to do list.

I had assembled everything I needed to do the job [except] one small special purpose tool that I needed to have in my right hand when breaking something loose with my left hand on the other side. It was in an awkward place to reach, and without the tool, another assembly had to come off first, requiring another hour of work.

I looked everywhere. It was not to be found. I wondered if another tech had inadvertently taken it out of the shop somewhere. Finally after looking everywhere I could think of, I decided that I would get a cup of coffee, take a quick break before doing the longer procedure.

I placed all the parts in my right hand into my left, grabbed my coffee cup, filled it, and then sat down at the table, laying down all the stuff in my left hand. To my astonishment, the tool I had been searching for was on the table among those things. I had apparently instinctively picked it up early in my collection of tools and parts and not remembered doing so.

I chuckled at myself and wondered when this anomaly would manifest itself through the remainder of my life. I have found a number of things through the years that I alone had to place there, that I couldn’t find when I needed it.

In looking at your Avitar, I would think that anyone with three saddles on their horse, likely has three saddle bags somewhere. I suspect your Ryobi Impact Driver might be hiding in one of them!

Yesterday I could not find my 12" long 1/8" drill bit. I rifled through all obvious places for a 12" long drill bit with no luck. I got the job done anyway.
I will eventually find that bit in the last place I look.

The good news is that as you get older, losing tools becomes less of a problem. Eventually you won't remember you ever had them so you don't have to remember where you put them. In that case, they aren't truly lost.

I find it better to look in the last place first. That way I find whatever faster.
