Has anyone else ever used them to glue up panels?

I cannot find my glue joint cutter anywhere.

Use tongue and groove cutters. I have had decent success using that as well as direct jointing and gluing.

JMHO

These shaper cutters from Shopsmith also work well.

There is no reason one could not do that but you end up doing a lot more cutting then if you had your glue set or a T&G set. You can always give it try and see what happens and let us know.

You could do it but it would be tricky. A rail and stile joint would be difficult to control on a long run. Three other options. First and easiest is pick up a biscuit joiner. Does the job effortlessly. Second would be using a slot cutter on a router and use splines. Third would be same splining technique using a table saw. The table saw technique works very well with a short set up time.

Thanks for the comments. I tried the rail and stile cutter and it was more difficult to control for me as you mentioned.

I went back old-school Shopsmith demonstrations where I first saw the horizontal boring feature and I used dowels. Simple enough and easy to manage in glue-up.

I finally found the cutter I was looking for in a bin where it should never have been. I likely put it there to pick up something else, and forgot to pick it back up, and walked away. So it was almost providence I guess that I found it only when looking for something else.

Any of you who have done that know how I felt.

OK good to know, I had a feeling it would not be easy but sometimes thing work out a lot better then expected.

Speaking of missing things and finding them......... I lost my 12" long 1/4" drill bit. I have a drawer with such things in it but even after pulling half the stuff out it wasn't to be found. I went to the store and got a replacement just yesterday. Then after that I was putting some hardware away that I got for a turning project I had to move a few things around in the drawer where I keep those sorts of things and noticed this long rod up against the front of the drawer. Yea you know it was the drill bit. I must have set it there since the drawer was open and then it rolled to the front and I forgot all about it. Now I have two of that size bits.

If I had not already torn the packaging apart I could have returned it, just minutes between the UN-packaging and the find. Rats.

But on the bright side, the next time you are looking for that bit, you have doubled your chances of finding it.
