Biscuit Cutter

I purchased a used Biscuit Cutter and am in the process of using it. I found the pins that allows the face to slide back and forth would protrude past the face of the sand paper. I also found you have to take the unit apart to install or take the unit off the quill. I machined a 1/4 inch slot in the top of the unit that allows me to access the set screw for the that holds the blade to the quill. The unit works well for end grain and side cuts. It is difficult to cut face cuts to attach a shelf to the side of a board. I appreciate the help I have received on this site. Tanks Larry

Without me going to get mine lets see if I can answer a few of your concerns.

To mount the unit there is a opening where the slot is, where the fastener is that you tighten it to the quill, this is where you access the set screw to mount it to the quill shaft. To do so you have to rotate the blade arbor so the set screw is visible in the slot, then align the shafts tapered flat so that and slip it on and then tighten. You do not have to disassemble anything.

As far as the guide rods extending out beyond the face, I've not seen that but I also know mind don't do that so I think the previous owner may have messed something up. I'd have to look at mine to see the details of how they mount later today.

Nick has a video of how to do the cuts you are interested in and I'll see if I can get you that link.

I personally have not tired this method. I have several biscuit cutters and for me it always seemed easier to just use one of those for that type of cut.

While the oatmeal is setting up I went and got a few pictures.

First it would appear that the guide rods are pressed into place. I see no adjustments so good luck with that. They do list those parts as an assemble (515458).

Here is a picture of mine and how the rod ends look:

This is how I mount mine, I locate the setscrew and insert the Allen wrench before I attempt to mount it.

Then I locate the taper flat on the quill shaft so I can see it. Then lift into place and push on the blade arbor to lift it so it is fully seated. I tighten the setscrew and then rotate the joiner to how I want to use it and tighten to the quill.

Excellent idea going thru the split. I missed that. I have milled hole in the top aligning everything from the top. I did not have to mill the slot. I probably should have posted my idea first. Again more eyes on a problem. I used mine today for end and side cuts and it works well. Thanks for the input. Larry
