My 48 Y.O. MV500 fence bit the dust. Seems the tensioning rod threads are compromised. Maybe the nut threads, too. Will try to save it, but the new upgraded fence may be in my future.
Anyone else had this problem?

Not yet , my'n creeks and moans when I tighten it so it probably wont be long, I will hate to see it go .

Mine has creaked, squeaked and moaned for as long as I remember. I guess I'm lucky it lasted this long.
Repair not in the cards. Threads too far gone. New one on order. The lady that took my order seemed surprised that they had some in stock. Should get it by next Thursday. Luckily, I have another SS I can rip on. But, it's set up with the Jointech saw train/router table. Changing table height is a royal PITA. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Creaked, squeeked and moaned fer years - ever consider lubrication?

I still use my 1963 fence and it does none of those things.

It was dry lubed regularly.
Not one to totally abandon an old friend, and since I'd ordered the new one, a tear down seemed like a good idea.
Upon closer inspection, it seems I was a mite hasty In my original diagnosis.
I was able to rehab the threads on the rod. Just ran the die up and down a few times. They were pretty bad, as I got a few metal curls. However the square nut didn't respond to the tap. It was truly beyond redemption.
A trip to Ace for a replacement was all it took.
I nearly had to grow another set of hands to accomplish the reassembly but finally got er done.
When the new one arrives, my old friend will be retired to one of the spare tables.

I gotta ask, WHY 'dry' lube? A single drop of oil will not likely migrate to a surface that will contaminate.

Also the 'nut' needs to be able to slide easily against the rear clamp.

I am concerned re 'surprised they had some parts in stock'.

Parts were not in stock- the new and improved fence was!

Didn't even ask about the parts. Saw the latest and greatest and, with all the improvements, it was a no brainer.

The new fence is nice but I need to add that I messed up my first one when adjusting to square. Unless there has been a change the fasteners there are in VERY thin metal and it doesn't take any effort at all to strip them.

Speaking of service from shopsmith, now this was so years back when they first came out but.... I called to order a replacement part and the lady noticed I had ordered the new fence about (I think it was) 9 months before. I explained what had happened and she sent me a new one for free, not even postage.

So for you or any owners, kids gloves when adjusting.
