Hey all!

Just wanted to say hey and introduce myself , i am new to the forum.
i have been wanting a shopsmith for a long time and finally found one for
couple hundred bucks so im exited about restoring it and seeing what all it can do. For right now im not interested in restoring it , i have a lot of reading on this board to do first but i would like to get it operational so with that being said it had a fair bit of surface rust . I tore the headstock down , base stand and bandsaw and got them working pretty good. One question maybe someone will give me advice on is when i was tearing the scrollsaw down i had to beat the lower gear shaft out because of excess rust and fractured the lower base that the gear went through so im in trouble... my question is can this be welded , i dont know what kind of material the base is made from or am i just gonna have to buy another one? shopsmith site wants around 265 for the base and thats a lil pricey considering i wont use it that much.Anyone have a base for sell? anyways thanks for any help with this.

Welcome aboard. :)

A picture of the broken part would help us to suggest how to proceed.

If you haven't found it yet, JPG posted a great thread on refurbing a scroll saw, here is the link.

Yes he did!

We both know that 'newbies' tend to get terminology/names confused. Also he replied with that 510 answer which is neither a scroll saw nor a jig saw.

Not that we have ever  gone down a trail that proved to be irrelevant  because of terminology confusion. Best to nail down subject before departing. ;)

Yup the base is officially in 2 pieces , no way I would weld it now even if I could. If anyone has a used base for a scroll saw that fits the mark v version ,I am interested. Ty.
