So a bit of backstory. I recently purchased a 2008 mark v 505. Got the thing for $350 in nice condition with bandsaw. Here is the pic. So I bought it in the hopes for an extra 510 extention table and too real it to cover cost. (wife says I already have 3 and that's the limit). However the unit is in nice shape and I'm tempted to swap out my older pieces for the newer ones before I sell it back out for like $350 again.

So my question, is the newer bandsaw worth dealing out with my older one. It has the coupler protector on the side and see through cover, and well, new. The old one just had bearings replaced and a new aluminum table. However the cover on the new one doesn't fit well, it's like it is to small or misaligned. So I'm stuck on what to do. Any thoughts?

Also would you swap the headstock with the older versions? I have one on my drill press without the red safety switch so it's a bit older (from a 500 model). I doubt I'll swap the main table as I don't mind the 500 table on my drill press.

On the other side do I attempt to keep it and risk the anger of the wife... But do I need a 3rd full sized shopsmith plus my drill press version and my powered stand. Lol... Maybe $350 wasn't a good deal and I jumped on a perceived deal.

Ahhh my bargain hunting is getting the best of me...

IMHO, every improvement made to the newer BS is great...except the table.
Having used the new table, there's no way I'd trade my old iron one for the the aluminum table.

I would keep both bandsaws. I have two shopsmith bandsaws and keep different blades on each. One for resawing, one for tight curves. I hate changing blades. I also have a big 17" Grizzley.

What is this 'limit' thing of which you speak?

You all are going to get me in trouble lol. If only I want tight on space I would keep it.

To add to my options... Is it possible to place 2 headstocks on the same unit one forward, one backwards and get the main table between to run 2 SPTs on each end of unit or is there going to be alignment, weight, or space issues?

Box it up and send it to me. I'd do most anything to keep a fellow Shopsmither out of trouble with his wife. If I had yours that would only make three. Besides, yours (either one of them) look to be about twenty years newer than mine.

I just purchased a second Shopsmith bandsaw for the same reason. One will have the carter guide for scroll cuts and the other for resawing.

If it can be done with peace in the family, you might Consider a Shop Deputy or Shorty to reduce space.

It provides a second station to drive whatever SPT you might acquire next.

Sell the bits and pieces you don't need on eBay, and you may recover most of your investment, and you have a spare headstock if your other unit ever needs repair in the middle of a project.
