I recently bought a 1982 Mark V. The bottom sheave rubs against a plate on front of the motor. How is this sheave mounted, I need to move it out about .010. Thanks for any help.

There is a small spacer that should be there. If it isn't then that is the problem for sure. If it is there it might be worn "thin" and need replacing. It is like a $2.00 part, so the postage is going to be more then the part. You might want to see if it needs anything else before ordering a new one.

If you look at the exploded parts list of the head stock it should be easy to spot. If not post back and I or someone else can post the part number.

Jacob Anderson is and excellent source on repairing shop smith tools. I have some of his DVDs and they are super. He has many on you tube for free too. Can't go wrong with him and I highly recommend him.

Unfortunately, I have not had time to do anything with it.

I finally got some time yesterday to take the sheave off. There is a set screw on the inside half of it, how do you get to it?

See attached procedure for motor removal, steps 13 and 14.
The procedure describes removing it with motor still inside headstock, but I have done it with motor removed.

Access it through the hole in the bottom of the motor pan.
