Long time stalker, first time poster!

Just acquired this Greenie from my boss after months of talking about it. Been in storage for 5-6 years in his hot humid awning fabrication shop, turned it on (I know this is a no-no but it fired up and purred). However, as I was loading it my friend who was helping me toyed with the speed dial so having done so, is there anything i need to do differently as I disassemble the headstock? I'm assuming no, but id rather be safe than further damaging parts. (I know not to turn it on). I'll get some photos later

Yes, turn the spindle by hand to reset the sheaves. It is easier to do this by installing a sanding disc first. Never turn the speed dial without the headstock powered up!

Yes, I had to ask him several times if he turned the dial because the first couple times he thought I was joking

No joke- easy damage control

Question is, did he 'force' it?

Likely damage usually is when forced towards slow.

However easy turns towards fast can pull the loop off the control sheave.

If reasonably lubricated(not dried out) and not forced, it likely suffered no damage.

I would verify the control sheave before anything else.

If an "A" headstock, that will require dropping the motor(not a bad idea anyway).

Welcome to the madness!

Here's a snapshot - i think he could have only turned it up higher since I had set it at the lowest speed when i had it on briefly. A lot of surface rust, came with the magna jigsaw and disc sander plate and the lathe attachments (think it was used mostly for this purpose), casters. have a couple saw arbors, missing the drill chuck, looks like the power cord has been replaced so i'm curious to see how well it was maintained once i crack it open

You 'lucked out' since it ia a "B" headstock.
