Very nice Chris. I have been meaning to get into book matching and box making. Currently, I have just been making bandsaw boxes. Just purchased a slew of blades to experiment with. I also work with relatively small pieces, so I bought a 6" drum sander via Byrne's Model Machines. I am hoping this will work well in cleaning up the re-sawn pieces.

Here's another job from the SS bandsaw. I'm puttering toward a guitar build. Rather than one giant rare piece of walnut, I selected and re-sawed the most-nearly quartersawn parts of a few boards, and joined them together. This is approx. 1/8" thick wood. There are 6 planks going left to right, with a bit of marquetry let in the middle:

I just recollected, that the many great cuts from the Shopsmith bandsaw were inspiring... poetic even!

Very nice! What sort of fence are you using to get such even cuts? Very good-looking box project too!

My bandsaw set-up has been to my satisfaction for a number of years, and I may go a few years on a blade before changing it. A long time ago I tried high-feature convex fence ideas for resawing, but I eventually just went back to the basic Shopsmith fence, and not even adjusted for "drift", as such. I make sure the fence is parallel to the grooves in the table.

The blade needs to be sharp and not have too many teeth. I have a 1/2" blade and I think it's a 3 or 4 tpi blade with skip teeth.

When I get a "Re-Sawyer" cut done, I do need to plane each resulting piece, taking out maybe 1/16" of unevenness, and I use handplanes. For a very figured piece, sometimes I try to plane more across the grain than with the grain. I have a love of quartersawn wood, and with this grain it may be tricky to plane strictly length-wise.
