The Mrs. found a decanter set that she liked and wants a piece of furniture to hold it. It will have two shelves, the top one to hold the decanter set and its tray and a bottom shelf for more bottles I guess. It will be made of bubinga and white maple. I got the frames for the shelves started yesterday and today. Bubinga is always a challenge due to the hardness. Every cut has to be fully backed due to the brittleness. I love the color though.

How did it turn out?

Maybe he got some 'contents' to test the containers with and got 'side tracked'?

I am reminded of a joke.

An older woman goes into a bar and orders a drink,

"I want four fingers of whiskey and one finger of water",

The bar tender thinks this would be too strong for her and pours one whiskey and four water.

When she orders her second drink she says

"Listen here sonny, this time I want it the way I ordered it, four fingers of whiskey and one finger of water. When you get to be my age you can hold your liquor, but you can't hold your water."

I had to take a week off from the shop to get an awning built to park cars under. Bloody hot here. I got the steel up and the canvas will be here this week on Fri. Did get back in the shop yesterday and completed the tray components and started on the supports that will be mounted between the trays. There will be feet under the bottom tray that I haven't started on yet. Had a blow out while pattern routing the supports which was exciting. The hard maple is so brittle one of them blew apart. I was using a 1/2" flush trim bit that has angled cutters but even though I had them trimmed within about an 1/8" it still caught and blew a piece across the room. Not fun. I decided to buy a much better bit and will get the replacement piece finished today. The pattern is still about 3/32 large. The supports will get a thin stripe of ebony inlayed down each edge. Then I will sand the pattern down to actual size which will allow me to use the pattern drum sander for the finished edge.

Got a little shop time in yesterday and managed to get the maple supports grooved and inlayed with the ebony. Have a few days travel now so they will have lots of time to dry. On my way to Billings Montana today.

Bad weather here in Las Vegas today so my first full day in the shop in a while. The liquor stand is completed as far as the woodworking goes. Now for the final sanding. The mirror for the bottom shelf will need to be cut and the legs will get a high gloss black lacquer paint job.
