drill chuck from Greenie

I just refurbished/TLC'ed a stuck drill chuck from a Greenie (circa 1962).
Closed jaws show a huge gap in the center.
Is it normal from that era models? or are those jaws worn out?
BTW, jaw grips strongly, just can't grip smaller bits than the gap, obviously.

IIRC 5/64" is the lower limit.
Is it a 'jacobs' or a 'cushman' brand?
Look at the lettering embossed within the recessed groove on the outer sleeve.

It depends on the chuck. The Jacobs 2236 that came with the 10ER's was 5/64-1/2. SS used different chuck manufacturers for the MK 5/V over the years. So it is possible that some of them were 5/64 also. The chuck that came with my new SS in 1994 closes all the way. It has the Shopsmith name on it so I don't know who actually made it.
The picture shows the SS branded chuck on the left and the Jacobs 3326 on the right.

You are correct, 5/64" lower limit.
I overlooked the marking on the sleeve.

I'm interested on how one gets the drill chuck apart. I have one or two that need a good cleaning and I've been putting it off.

i used bearing puller set (3", 4" & 6") from HF ($19.99 less 20% usual cp).

FYI I do have a copy of Mike's (mickyd) 2009 Frozen Jacobs Drill Chuck Repair Procedure PDF stored on My Google Drive link as well a copy of his Shopsmith Set Screw PDF. Both are excellent.

yea, Mickyd's link is excellent.
However, I did apply a very thin coat of grease on the guide ring and jaw guide holes only, then turn the ring back and forth to spread the grease on jaws before putting the outer sleeve back on.
