So this is my first post here so hello! I've scoured the SS boards for a long time.
I've had my 10er for several years now (it was given to me by a fella who was moving). It is in great shape and I use it daily. What a tank.

The only thing I have always wanted to add was the speed changer. After watching one on eBay I finally took the plunge followed by an irritated wife. It listed for 130 with free shipping and said it had been repaired but works fine.

My question Is do you think I got a good deal and besides belts is there anything else I will need?

130 is not over priced for a good SC, but I have bought whole machines (just for the SC) for about the same. If it is as clean as it looks, you did fine. Get some belts from Skip and the setscrew/nut for attaching it to the headstock and you are good to go.

BTW, it makes a completely different machine out of the 10ER ... it should have come standard with one. LOL.

Post some pictures of your machine!

If it fits correctly onto the way tubes it is a good repair. It looks good.

All the correct parts are there. It appears in excellent condition.
I do not think you 'got hurt' at $130. (Marital bliss is a different animal!).

Do as Rjent suggested.

Welcome aboard.

I think that was a good deal, the repair appears to have been done by someone who knows what they were doing. That is a common place for them to break, it is caused by over tightening the nut that holds it to the headstock. The nut should only be finger tight.

I bought one on ebay not long ago and it was broken in the same place, and not in that good a shape, Here is a link to the thread on how I rebuilt it.

The belts are 4L220 and 4L250, Try to get the "cogged" type, they are more flexible.

Your will also need a 1 1/2", 3/8-16 tpi set screw and nut to attach it to the headstock. see this thread. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... 20060.html

I called Skip earlier today and ordered belts and the bolt and nut. Hoping it works out of the gate!

Oh, by the way, JPG, I noticed you are in the Bluegrass state as well... I'm all the way west not far from Paducah.

I always feel sorry for that lonely little island. I think about 20 people live there. I'm not far from there though.
