FREE Sam's Club Membership - Maybe

This worked for me and may for you also. I never renew when they ask and let it expire. Regularly I get a mailer for a new membership that includes a $20 gift card to be used at Sams. With that I also ask what I get for being a veteran. That gets me an additional $25 card. Ergo, a free membership.
BTW a few years ago they said if you had been a member in the past six months you were still considered a member and couldn't use the new member discount. Our AG put a stop to that nonsense - change your policy or we will see you in court.

It seems as though the norm these days is "say or do anything that will get you something for free".

Did I detect a note of criticism or perhaps even derision in your reply? Perhaps you were just having a two-dwarf day (Sleepy and Grumpy).
I note that there are several postings on Shopping the PX Online which leads me to believe that retired military personnel are looking to get things cheaper from a restricted source to which they are entitled. That entitlement was earned and the US Govornment says so. Well, the discount from Walmart (Sam’s Club) was mailed probably to everyone in the US. However, when I was at the Club Membership Desk getting a membership card, the supervisor who was training a new employee on the process said to me, “Be sure to ask her about the veteran’s discount.” So, I did, thus what amounts to a free membership – apparently something I earned and not available to everyone. So, I must be missing something. You’re entitled to shop at the PX because the US Gov. says so but because Walmart says I’m entitled to an additional gift card I’m wrong in accepting it? At least Walmart doesn’t use taxpayers’ money to subsidize their membership. Yeah, I know that was a cheap shot but I’m having a two-dwarf day.

Anyone who declines an offer(free or reduced $) of something that they need (or desire) is I think a fool.
If the entity making the 'offer' does not expect takers, they are foolish.
Now demand side is different.
