The speed dial on my 520 quit moving as I change speeds. The speeds seem to change OK but because the dial quit moving I don't have a clue about the RPMs. What is the best way to resolve this issue? What should I look for?

The gear teeth on the back center of the speed control knob are stripped. There is an idler gear between the knob and the outer indicator dial.
The knob needs to be replaced/repaired. There is a poster on e-bay that repairs them with a swap(you can request return of 'your' busted knob after it is repaired, but that increases the time).
IMHO the repaired knobs are more durable than the original.

Thanks JPG you were right. I was actually lucky. Nothing was broken but the lock nut was loose and the gears were not engaging. Went to the sawdust sessions video on rebuilding the drive train and Nick explained how to put it all back together. I am back up and running again. Thanks again for your excellent advice.
