Looking for a little help

Hi guys,

The other day at a garage sale I picked up a Mk V for $100, Everything seemed to be in working order. I have never owned a ShopSmith, but have always wanted one.

Anyway, I have gone through everything and have some questions on what is what. One thing that has caught my eye is that there is a lock of sorts that holds the machine in a vertical position, seems things dont line up.

For the most part everything seems really straight and clean. There is a small dent on the power head and the saw table has a few nicks. My plan is to take it apart, clean it up and then repaint it to match my other equipment.

Anyway, here are a few pics, if anyone has any info and what I have circled I would appreciate it.

A.

Thanks for that. That is odd that it is off-set. Does it still hold adequately?

Of course! That is why it was designed that way.

Do notice that a previous owner has lowered it back down without backing the locking screw enough to clear(note scar on right side of offset 'dimple').

We need a closeup of '4'. The washer on the right is part of an arbor(saw/shaper/...).

The sn says 1973 to 1978(closer to 78). http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/serialnumber.htm

Man, you guys are great! I will get some close ups when I get home. There is a dado blade set that came with the ShopSmith, I did not picture it because I more or less knew what it was.

Re picture #4

1 a - on right - drive center for lathe
1 b - on left - if is 1/2" thread then I think it is a shaper arbor and goes with the rub collars in #4 http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... rarbor.htm

2 - a faceplate for mounting bowls on lathe

3 - the tailstock for lathe functions.

4 - see 1b above

Indeed, Yes.
I had the same question and has been well answered by multiple forum members.
