AO Smith Motor Sheave Removal

Just tore apart a 1954 A model headstock with an AO Smith motor. I have taken apart B and C before and all you have to do is remove the sling ring with pliers. This one is completely different. What is the safest way to remove the spring to get the sheaves off? I am taking the motor to an electric motor repair shop to check it out before I start it up. I want to take the sheaves off so they don't have to.

Thanks
Jason

It have a 'nut' on the shaft?

If so be advised it is a left hand thread.

Yes has a nut on the shaft and I didn't know it was left handed. I haven't given it a shot yet wanted to get some input before I took a crack at it. If it is left handed I will try it tomorrow night when I head back out to the shop. Any other suggestions? I am pretty good at the B and C headstocks they don't give me issues anymore didn't realize the very first ones were that different. Pretty interesting that it is 63 years old though.

Thanks

Jason

It is a bit tricky getting the nut back on the shaft under tension. ;)
