I needed a new case for a replacement laptop I acquired and I thought I would try my hand at making one of these. The Ibox was used for the corners and I just did a glueup for the floating panels with 1/4 inch tongue and routed a 1/4 inch groove to mate it to and the "edge" was done with a simple raised panel cutter. All the work was done with the Mark 7. Panel is about 13 inches wide (cross grain). This was a prototype for a Maple and Mahogany case, but it turned out well enough to use (at least I think so LOL).

Anyway, I haven't finished it inside yet as I intend to put Naugahyde Faux leather inside with wood trim pieces and spray adhesive holding everything in place, and I will update after that is done.

It was fun to do!
The "leather" will be a pretty dark brown and the reddish Fir trim.

My wife has already said it needs a wood carrying handle, so I am on it ... LOL

Construction 2x4's LOL. Our Lowes has a Fir stud section that has a lot of heartwood (the red color). I go through and hand pick the pretty stuff and make stuff with it. It is a pain sometimes because of it's softness and splinteryness <- is that a word? LOL. But when oiled, it really is pretty wood.
From the wood database:

Color/Appearance: Can vary in color based upon age and location of tree. Usually a light brown color with a hint of red and/or yellow, with darker growth rings. In quartersawn pieces, the grain is typically straight and plain. In flatsawn pieces, (typically seen in rotary-sliced veneers), the wood can exhibit wild grain patterns.
