I looked for instructions and comments on replacing the speed sensor-could not find the details. Received instructions from SS technical support.
I am posting the instructions here with my comments on the experience. Also including some pictures.....
Instructions to Replace Shopsmith Power Pro Speed Sensor
1. Remove the motor, remove 3-screws that hold the black plastic cowling on the motor.
2. Under the cowling is the fan. To remove the fan, remove snap ring using snap ring pliers, for external snap rings, and a 2.5 mm Allen wrench. Suggest a long handle Allen wrench
3. Remove the snap ring and loosen the setscrew on shaft and the fan will slide off the shaft—found to wobble back and forth to remove-doesn’t just slide off.
4. Under the fan is the speed sensor. Two screws hold it in place.
5. Remove the old speed sensor and install the new speed sensor.-Suggest you blow out any dirt or dust. Pay attention to how cable is positioned with new speed sensor. Make sure cable and two screws are positioned so as to not be impacted by spinning fan/motor—a tight fit. There are two small shafts in the screw holes for screws. Be careful with these.
6. Replace the fan and snap ring and tighten the setscrew.
7. Replace the cowling and install the motor.
