This gal might be a little to young to be out of the nest

Lots of noises around the yard the last couple of days. We knew they were cardinals but we also knew some thing was up as it was excessive. Could not spot the little ones but thought they were out and about somewhere. Well this one showed up where I could see it and it is very young. My guess is something disturbed the nest..... no heavy weather so maybe another animal??

I captured a video and grabbed this image from the video:

They are quite noisy and have several vocals they use even at this age. If you are interested I posted a video on youtube:

It did not seem worried that I was there and I passed by several times between the front and back yard. Not sure it can even fly, no tail feathers so even if it can it would not be far. I hope it finds a safer place for the night.

That is really nice video. Your other Cardinal video also was listed. Both very cool. What did you take the video with ?

Not to worry. The neighborhood cat will teach her to fly.......or not.

I only have a cell phone and a Canon SX40 and the Canon was used for this video.

I don't think I have another Cardinal video???

Anyway thanks for watching.

Some or maybe all of them made it overnight, lots of sounds still coming out of the backyard now. I wonder if the parents separate them on purpose as part of a survival plan, one gets found rather then say 3.

Cardinals are interesting parents, they stick with the kids for a while and show then food sources like the small bird feeder by the back door etc.

This evening when I was finishing my day outside I saw the little one up in a large maple tree. Still being noisy but alive and then she even did a little showing off by flying to another tree! I think she will be much safer up in a tree rather then so near the ground like yesterday.

Ah they grow up so fast.
