So I have three arbors that I thought were for the dado/molder stuff....until I looked closer and noticed a difference. One is longer, all the rest is the same...washers, keyed slot and washer, spacers and diameter...just the length is different. I suspect the one that isn't black was for a 10ER...but I dont know that.

Clue? Thought?

I think all that the non-black oxide one indicates is that it was not produced by SS Inc.

This arbor has changed over the years.

The 10er arbor looks the same as the non black one but doesn’t have the slot/keyed washer, they was added when they started making the Mark 5's (greenies).

Thanks. Why would one be longer? Does this indicate another purpose?

I don't know either and I cannot get to my arbors to check. However, I think the longer one is a Shaper Arbor and the others are the Dado Arbor.

Dusty, the threads shaft on a shaper arbor is thinner. Isn't it 1/2 vs 5/8 inch on a dado/molder arbor?

Excluding the one that might be for the 10E/ER I believe we have heard that the longer one was for the 500 style machines and turned out to be too long for the 510/520 machines and was shorten(think tie bar and shield). The shorter version can still hit on the those machines but was much worst on the longer one.

I have one of the longer ones somewhere, something I got back in the late 1970's or very early 1980's. The newer ones have all been the shorter version. I don't have an actual year for the change but guess it was about the time the 510 came out or slightly later.

I don't know! Mine are all packed (prematurely) for relocation and I can't go look. Even my documentation is stuck away somewhere.

Smaller table = longer arbor????

Some how, that does not seem logical to me but like I said early, I don't know. The second table insert maybe.
