I want to build the molding fence shown in the P.T.W.F.E book. Does Anyone know what type of wood should be used or how thick it should be?

Brad, I made mine from a simple 2x4 that I planed down to 1-1/4"
It needs to be slightly thicker than the width of the molding knives so that you can cover as much of the profile as you need for a particular cut. Also make sure that there is clearance between it and the table surface after it's fastened to the rip fence, this way there is no drag as you position and reposition the fence.
