I had my Model 510 in storage for a number of years and recently took it out of moth balls because I finally have a new workshop to put it in. Unfortunately the table tops, way tubes and bench tubes have oxidized somewhat, not terribly bad but enough to make sliding the headstock difficult.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best method for removing the oxidation and polishing the tabletops and tubes back to their original luster?

Any information or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Bar Keepers Friend soft (liquid) cleanser should make short work of the oxidation, and restore the shine. Then polish with Johnson Paste Wax to lubricate and protect.

+1 to Bar Keepers Friend! I’ve switched to the spray foam only because it was what a friend had bought and had a spare bottle. The liquid was what I had been using and find really all around as a great cleaner on metal. I had run out, mentioned to a friend, so he gave me a spare bottle of the spray foam.

Good points, I have been thinking about removing my carriages and polishing the aluminium locks, they seem to be dragging , any pro's or cons against this?

Just remember. The locks work as a function of "friction".
