20" scrollsaw weighted arm assembly question:
Has anyone ever attempted to remove the weight from the shaft on this? The shaft (and the motor pulley) are both badly worn and I have located a replacement pulley and shaft on McMaster-Carr. I assume that the weight piece is a press fit to the shaft, but before attempting to beat the thing with a hammer, I thought I would ask if anyone has done this?

Have you tried the mother ship?

I would guess it is likely force(interference) fit.

So far I've been unable to get any worthwhile help from the mother ship. Someone dutifully noted my question and promised someone would call back last weekend - no joy. (Last time I asked a question and got a promise of a callback it never happened either, and that was a month ago). I may take it to a shop with an arbor press and see if they have any luck separating it. I tried heating and that didn't make a difference, but then I haven't tried REAL heat (oxyacetylene) yet.

I'm betting it's a press fitting as well. I tried to see if it would unscrew (in case it is a threaded fit) and no joy there either.

The machinist may suggest the buildup/re-turn option.

Today I got a box from Shopsmith which had a few scroll saw parts - nothing critical that I need, however. They did send me the scroll saw manual, which allowed me for the first time to find the part number for the pulley I am looking for ... #515094 ref no 114. However, it does not come up with anything when I type it into the Shopsmith site search box. I've emailed to ask them about the part. For the first time, I have some hope I may be able to get one through them! On the other hand, its a good thing I was able to fix the rheostat on the control box... a replacement control box costs $380!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's official - the Mother Ship no longer carries the pulley part #515094 ref no 114. I've ordered a pulley from MSC which has very close dimensions. I will probably have to machine it to fit. The existing pulley has no lip on one side, the replacement has a lip.
