We acquired a large TV storage unit some time ago. We no longer use it for storing a television. But it is a nice piece of furniture and is does work well for storage. Wife asked if I could add some shelves to it to make it more storage friendly and less avalanche prone.

So I did what I could. Nothing special but it should do the job of storing games and other seasonal stuff not always on display.

Construction is 3/4 inch Birch Plywood. Edges done with Birch Tape.

Finish is 2 coats of stain (Not as dark as the original piece, but LOML approves)

2 coats of Spar urethane.

I'd use contact cement to glue a piece of veneer to the back of the cabinet to hide the cutouts. It would go a long way to keep the piece from shouting "I'm an old TV cabinet!"

I did not want to make any permanent modifications to the piece of furniture. We may yet sell it someday and I'd really like to keep it as original as possible.

The doors on the sides pull forward and close. It never really screams "I'm an old TV cabinet!" when the doors are closed. It more softly suggests, I'm an over priced Armoire that no one really needs. We got it from a friend 12 years ago for the best possible price. "It's yours if you haul it away".

It's still seeing use a storage cabinet. It did hold a lot of my wife's craft supplies and bulkier items(Fabric, quilt stuffing etc.), but since we moved it has been re-purposed in its storage requirements. Smaller more stack-able items. Games, Puzzles, Seasonal napkins and place settings etc. The napkins and soft seasonal items really made the contents avalanche prone and it just looked messy.

LOML is happy that's all that matters.
