Running Motor off carriage

This may seem like a dumb question, but is there any danger in running the motor when it is removed from the carriage?
There are obvious precautions necessary for personal safety, but I am concerned with damaging the power head.

I don't know about the PowerPro but with a Mark V the only issue might be when the motor first starts. You need to hold it securely so that the torque doesn't send the motor to the floor.

I just open the jaws on my bench vise and cradle the motor between the jaws.

MK VII is the same I assume. On a towel on the floor, so I just need to wedge it or something.
