I am getting a screeching sound once in a while from the left side of the headstock when I am doing lathe work. I am wondering if it is a loose belt.
I have it apart and the bearing in ideler shaft and or drive sleeve and or quill seem ok. They do not look damaged and seem to move freely. I did notice the poly v belt was a little loose but not much at all. Any suggestions?

If the belt is loose then follow the SS instructions to set the tension properly.

"Screech" is a good description of the sound a slipping poly-v belt makes.

Thanks. I will put it back together and see if tightening the belt helps.
If anyone has any other thoughts as to the problem please let me know.

Check if the idler shaft is rubbing on the edge of the vent plate.
