Shop Made Accessory Shelf

Post by redleg »

I have gone the Under Shopsmith cabinet route a couple times. The first one (plywood) came with a Shopsmith and I used it for several years but had to go to another Shopsmith to do horizontal boring. The second one was oak and I just used the cabinet case and cut it down to just fit between the table posts and put all new drawers in it. Only problem was the drawers were not deep enough for the 12 inch sanding disk.

I decided to go back to a shop made accessory shelf.
I left room for the table legs to go all the way down for the full amount of usable horizontal travel.

While I was making changes I added threaded rod and knobs to the bandsaws.

Thanks for the positive comments. I believe it is curly maple sometimes called tiger maple. It happened to be one of the first trees I cut on this property because I needed fire wood. Much of the tree top was dead. When I found out what it was I saved most of trunk.

11/1/2020 Edit: Removed 3D Warehouse url

Edit: 11/01/2020 Changed 3d warehouse url

https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... f-10282020

Moved the miter gauge further to the left. Added distances for starting points for hole locations and centers of circular holes. Moved live center, drive spur and removed small lathe tool support from the drawing. Also added a 1x4 to the bottom of the shelf to prevent sag.

I cut out the saw guard hole on a new shelf today and found the guard was a little tight in the hole. I adjusted the dimensions in the file by 1/16" on both sides at the top in the Sketchup drawing.

I have been searching for a plan for the accessory shelf and it looks like you have one. Problem is I can't seem to be able to access it. What app do I need to open the drawing and see all of the deminsions. Thanks in advance for your help.

The accessory shelf above was drawn with Sketchup 2017 I believe. It has expired on my computer. I opened it with Sketchup viewer from the file I stored but I cannot get a clear print. The current Sketchup free online is useless, JMHO. I will attempt to put dimensions in a pdf format later this week and attach. The file is on 3D Warehouse if anyone has A working version of Sketchup (Shopsmith Accessory Shelf 10282020) https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... f-10282020

FYI the last free version of 2017 is still available here:

https://help.sketchup.com/en/downloading-older-versions

It still works but getting dated. That is what I have and use.
