I am buying my second mark v 510 just for the bandsaw. Now I want to refurbish the the whole unit to resell it, it has some rust on the way tubes how do some of you guys get rust off and keep it from coming back I live in Florida and unfortunately the humidity can rust anything even the newest stuff I have never even used yet.

If you are Hard Corps Shopsmith you could try "Nicks Potato" trick.

Im not sure how bad yours is, but i've had good luck with WD-40 and, depending on how bad it is...(in order of fine-coarse) fine bronze wool pads, maroon 3m scotchbrite, and green scotchbrite.

I prefer to not use any abrasives but thats not always an option. I've used the bronze wool on anodized aluminum that became pitted, after a few treatments with the bronze wool it looked almost as good as clear anodized aluminum.

This stuff is great, I've used that on some nasty rusty junk and it was amazing how well it worked. It seems to work better to me if you can submerge the part in it, kind of hard to do that with those tubes. Can always soak some paper towels in the solution and wrap them around.

A 5' piece of pvc drain pipe with a cap on one end and a 'plug' on the other with a 1" capped both ends pvc pipe to help fill up the center.

Overnight will be all it takes(unless severely pitted etc.).

A pint may be enough.(if not reverse the tube and repeat the soak).

Then all that is required is a bit of polishing(and waxing).

I'm actually picking it up this weekend and from the pictures it's hard to tell how bad it is from what I can see it only looks like a small amount on the tubes behind the headstock. I sprayed mine with the wd40 dry lube it worked great for about a day lol gonna give the paste wax a shot this weekend.

When you use the paste wax do you put it on and leave it on on do you buff it off like you would on wood furniture

Regardless, buffing will leave a layer. After it dries, buffing becomes more labor intensive. The residual solvent when buffed after application works like the heat generated when buffing later to distribute the wax.

Personally I like to let the solvent vent off for at least a few minutes.
