FYI, the EWT lathe chisels and sets are on sale right now. Just ordered a set. Best deal I could find.

I'm not sure that everyone is going to know you are talking lathe chisels here. As in Easy Wood Tools. And I'm thinking you are talking about on sale at Shopsmith, which they are.

I'm also not sure you shopped very far for better prices. These tools are often on sale for 15% off. A $119.99 tool would be $18 off, $101.99 and shopsmith has it for $107.99. To make mater more interesting the shipping from shopsmith is $16.49.

Correct me if I am wrong but the EWT tools use replaceable carbide tips. Call me old fashioned but I prefer the good old HSS lathe chisels. The carbide discs on the ones I have seem to be mostly for scraping not cutting. Also I need to be able to grind a chisel to match the job at hand. I can’t do that with carbide. I change the grind on my chisels frequently and the carbide ones would be way to limiting. JMHO

I wish I had the skill to finesse a grind like that! Actually, In my very limited experience, I’ve had to study and experiment with tool geometries and edge prep to eliminate tearout on a bowl, so your point is well taken.

But with that said, the EWT Rougher sure looks impressive in the video below. My Pro Rougher feels great to hold, but I still haven’t had time to turn a bowl with it.

I like my easy wood tools quite a bit! Just finished this rack to make a home for them, along with my Shopsmith steel tools.

I did not check Amazon, probably should have but I needed some other stuff from Shopsmith anyway. I have the traditional chisels and I do not have the patients to sharpen them up to the performance levels of a carbide tip. Excited to see how they perform.
