I was going to post this about a month ago but forgot to... Why yes, I do forget stuff.
The article below is about our oldest great-grandchild (18) who has been active in their local JROTC program. Her younger sister is now also in the JROTC program.
Maria did have a disappointment shortly after receiving this honor. She was wanting to join the air force upon graduation this spring but found that they will not accept her since she is too short (4' 9"). I understand that the navy will accept her so she is now planning that direction. She is a go-getter, she will make it work out.

On December 6th, the Board of School Trustees recognized the heroic efforts of Jeffersonville High School student and Air Force JROTC cadet Maria Teles. Cadet Teles’ quick action recently helped save a community member. While working at Dairy Queen, she was able to assist a customer who was choking by performing the Heimlich maneuver, along with another staff member. She then called 911, informed emergency personnel about the situation and directed them to her location. Cadet Teles’ manager stated, “I’m confident that Maria’s quick thinking in addressing this customer’s life threatening situation was critical in keeping him from choking to death.”

Colonel Benning, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Jeffersonville High School, nominated Cadet Teles for the Silver Valor Award, the second-highest award a JROTIC cadet can earn. Cadet Teles will be formally presented with the award on December 8th. Congratulations Cadet Teles!

You have good reason to be proud, farmer. These just goes to show that the younger generations are not really as bad as some indicate. We do have hope.

Kudos on making the correct mind set that stuck through at least three generations.

Oh well at least she will be still wearing blue!

Ir is super nice to see such notice of one of our youth. Especially nice for Great Grandparents.

Maria, as many others, will have no lasting regrets for not attaining the height requirements of specific organizations. As personally known, physical height not only sometimes becomes a minor hindrance, but also becomes part of a driving force that encourages success. My very best wishes to Maria!
