I too consider it spam but spam with what purpose. I just don't understand why they would spend the time doing this.

It might be my imagination but it seems like many of these are sports related.

There are at least 3 links to a web site. The purpose of the spam, in this case is to drive traffic to that site.

I couldn't agree with you more. However, there are all kinds of uneducated people in the world with access to the net kids included. AIUI the more hits a site gets the higher up on the Google search engine it gets.

Just FYI. The links in this type of post are often used to direct visitors to sites that infect visitors with malware, ransomware, etc., so it's a bit more insidious than simple search engine optimization.
